I wouldn't have my daughter without them. When my daughter was 4 weeks old she was rushed via ambulance to our local hospital after blood work showed a hemoglobin of 3 which is a critically low blood count. She immediately received a life saving transfusion the first of 3 she would receive during her first stay in the PICU. My daughter Maggie was later diagnosed with a very rare and life threatening blood disorder called Diamond Blackfan Anemia. Her body does not make its own red blood cells.
She is now 16 months old and received her 29th blood transfusion just yesterday. She will continue to rely on blood donors throughout her entire life unless she undergoes a risky bone marrow transplant. 29 different people have saved my daughter's life. Every single time we go I look at the bag and see those words volunteer donor and thank GOD for her angels out there that don't even know her but save her life. Thank you to anyone who donates blood you have given our family the greatest possible gift.
