It's what I've done for almost 45 years. My blood type is O- and I began donating blood at the age of 18. I must admit I didn't really comprehend the significance of my donations except that I was helping someone as I had been taught to do by my parents. I am now 62 and have been diagnosed with illnesses that frequently necessitate transfusions of packed red blood cells as well as platelets that keep me at a functioning level until my treatments begin.

Now that I am on the receiving end of donations I obviously understand the huge impact of these blood donations. So may I say to all of you who continue to donate my fervent gratitude and admiration for you are way beyond words
